Welcome to the Animal Welfare Network for Wales (AWNW) - the sector council for animal welfare, established in 2006.

The AWNW is an independent initiative set up to bring together organisations working to improve animal welfare standards across Wales and to facilitate effective communication with key stakeholders.

Our twenty-five members have a wealth of knowledge and expertise on a range of species, from wildlife and farm animals, to equines and pets. Collectively, the AWNW is the expert voice for animal welfare in Wales.

In recent years, the AWNW has worked closely with local authorities and the Welsh Government to improve animal welfare standards. Our recent publications include the Voluntary Code of Practice for Racing Greyhounds and the Code of Practice for Animal Welfare Establishments. These can be downloaded from our Resources page.

Within the Network exist a number of working groups, specialising on a particular species or policy issue. As of 2021, there are three AWNW Working Groups:

  • The Greyhound Working Group

  • The Equine Working Group

  • The Licensing of Animal Activities Working Group.

For details on how to become an AWNW member, please visit the section below.

The AWNW constitution can be found here.
